Dibbavana Sri Lanka
is a spiritual and cultural project supporting the 300 years old Samudratheera Maha Viharaya "Tsunami" temple in Madiha, Matara region in Sri Lanka. It is known as the "Tsunami" temple because during the tsunami attack in 2004 it gave shelter to about 600 victims for nearly 6 months and is known for its powerful spiritual energy and hospitality as well as a great location for meditation, yoga and surfing.
If you are travelling around you are welcome to stay for a few days. The centre can accomodate single men, women, couples and families with children. There is a Montesori Kindergarten open everyday from 8-12 am.
You can do individual meditation in the temple or anywhere in the compound as well as yoga in the community hall. The centre is on a cliff near the ocean with a private beach suitable for swimming, surfing, running etc. Actually Madiha is the prime surfing area in the whole south of the island, so if you board and seek solitude regarding spiritual practice, piece of quiet and local friends just let us know.
Local food is available upon request two times a day and you can always order something extra or just go out for dinner.
Since it is a dana based project, you will not be charged for staying but you can support the temple by a donation and free voluntary work.
The only condition for staying is to observe the five precepts of buddhist moral conduct especially refraining from the use of alcohol and drugs.
The resident monks and the temple crew will be can assist you in any endeavour you pursue in Sri Lanka, pilgrimage, mountain and jungle trekking as well as guide to intensive meditation on the island.
